Nothing quite matches the look of a leather jacket worn well. One of the most stylish pieces of outerwear a man can get, every man should have a leather jacket in the wardrobe. The question to ask is: what’s the right leather jacket style for yours?

The difference between the right and wrong jacket can be night and day, so it pays to do a little bit of extra research when taking the plunge. Fortunately, you’ve come to the right place. We’re experts in all things leather, so we’re here to pass on some style advice. It’s your whistle-stop tour through the most popular jackets of the day and what kind of wardrobe they’re suited to. It’s the perfect opportunity to discover a hidden gem that you might never have considered otherwise.

Bomber Jackets

The modern descendants of WWII pilot jackets, leather bomber jackets are easy to wear with most casual outfits. They combine well with jeans to give a relaxed, laid-back look, which can be finished off with either a plain t-shirt or a smart-casual shirt. Of all these types of jackets, bombers are perhaps the most versatile.

Several of our most popular men’s leather jackets are bomber jackets. The Matt bomber jacket is simple in design, but this gives it almost endless versatility.

It has adjustment tabs on the waistband, two zip chest pockets and attractive panel detail on the shoulders. We recommend matching it with a pair of simple, smart-looking jeans and a plain, neutral t-shirt underneath.

A different option that keeps with the bomber style is the Mac jacket. Instead of chest pockets, the Mac has large, zipped side pockets and two inside pockets. It has more extensive stitch detailing than the Matt, a buckle-fasten collar, and fashionable shoulder pads.

The quirky features of the Mac mean that you can be bolder in what you wear with it. While jeans will work with any bomber jacket, a style like the Mac works especially well with a stylish pair of suede shoes and a casual shirt.

Our final bestseller in this broad category is the classic-looking Elvis jacket. With a wide collar, button-up chest pockets, two-tone look and adjustable cuffs, the Elvis, like its namesake rockstar, is a perfect blend of style and substance.

The Elvis jacket works very well as part of a rougher look. Wear it with your favourite pair of jeans and on top of a t-shirt or thin sweater. A jacket like this is designed to be worn again and again, in every season and on every occasion. It does come with the most overt seams, which adds extra shape and can really help hide any excess Christmas weight!

Shearling jacket

Shearling jackets come in a range of styles, but they’re set apart by their distinctive leather. The material is made from sheepskin or lambskin that’s processed to turn it into a soft, supple material perfect for jackets. At Hidepark, all of our shearling jackets are lined with genuine sheep wool to make them incredibly warm and comfortable, even in the coldest winter months. They come in a number of different styles, so be sure to find something that you really fall in love with.

Because they’re so warm, shearling jackets can be worn as cold-weather coats over most outfits. The best part about a high-quality sheepskin jacket is the profile – even with the wool interior, they are not bulky like many winter-style coats, so you get the best of both worlds. Keep in mind that they’re not typically formal clothing items, but they work with anything from smart-casual through to your most relaxed, informal clothes. If you’re always on the go and are up for a bit of adventure, you can’t go wrong with a shearling jacket.

Above is one of our favourite shearling jackets, the B4 flying jacket. For a touch of class, why dress it up a little with a shirt, sweater, neutral trousers and smart suede shoes? Alternatively, wear whatever you feel most comfortable in and enjoy the warmth that the B4 will give you, even in the coldest months.

Biker Jacket

With large collars, prominent zips and a timeless appearance, mens leather biker jackets are icons of fashion. Enjoyed by men of all ages, these jackets have moved from the realm of exclusive biker gangs to the mainstream, where they’ve been enjoyed by men for decades. It doesn’t take much to make a biker jacket stand out – they do all the work on their own.

It’s currently fashionable to dress biker jackets up rather than down, wearing shirts and smarter trousers with them and departing from the classic rebel look. In reality, these versatile jackets work with most styles, whether you want to dress them up or go for a more comfortable look.

The Chestnut Rik jacket is one of our most popular biker jackets. While it moves away from the traditional side-zip style, it retains the rough class of biker jackets worn through the ages. Match it with your favourite pair of jeans and a graphic t-shirt or comfortable shirt, and you’ll have a great, informal outfit to wear when you’re out and about.

Blouson Jacket

Blouson jackets are distinctively drawn in at the waist, allowing the body of the jacket to hang down over the hem. Inspired by both old US flight jackets and police blouson jackets, they’re warm, practical jackets for colder seasons that look great when worn with a range of clothes.

All of Hidepark’s blouson jackets are made from nappa lamb leather, which is renowned for its soft, supple feel and superior quality. Blousons are designed to be comfortable and functional as well as good-looking – we believe that you shouldn’t have to compromise on one to get the other.

Our two best-selling men’s blouson jackets, the Will and the 9853 both have classic drawn-in waists and cuffs, with turned-down collars and stitch detailing. The Will is typical of a simpler design, with minimal decoration and two side pockets, whereas the 9853 has more distinctive features, including metal poppers and more prominent stitching. Both are classic jackets that will keep you looking great and feeling warm.

Blouson jackets can work in a more casual outfit, but they’re at their best when worn with smarter clothes. Try pairing them with smart-casual trousers and blue or brown shoes, while wearing a white or pale shirt with a dark tie beneath the jacket. In general, blouson jackets look best when zipped up, but don’t be afraid to leave the zip low enough to show off your tie and shirt underneath.

The blouson is a great option for events where you want to dress up a little, but aren’t so formal as to require a suit. In summer, however, the heat-trapping hem can make them a little warm, so these are definitely jackets to be worn during the colder months.

Leather blazer

Leather blazers are designed with both style and comfort in mind. Drawing on traditional suit jackets, leather blazers bring a touch of class to both formal and casual outfits. These jackets have the distinctive lapels of all classic blazers and are available in both two-button and three-button styles.

One of our most popular men’s jackets is the 728 leather blazer. It’s simple design and self-evident style speak for themselves in this traditional piece that can work with a range of different outfits. Made from incredibly soft nubuck leather, this blazer is as comfortable as it is fashionable.

While leather blazers can work with almost anything, they’re outstanding with a smart, open-collar shirt and a sharp pair of shoes. But don’t think this blazer is a one-trick pony. If you want to dress down, it’ll work just as well with both round and v-neck t-shirts or sweaters and jeans. Made from incredibly soft nappa or Nubuck leather in black, brown or chestnut, the 728 is the ultimate blazer for style and comfort.

Leather Coat

Long leather coats are practical and versatile, suitable for all weather conditions. They’ll keep you warm and dry in the April showers and protect against the chill of a crisp winter morning. Longer and thicker than other leather jackets, leather coats can be worn over just about anything as you go on walks in the country or errands around town.

While leather coats work with just about anything, they go particularly well with a sweater or thick shirt. Below the waist, they can be paired with either light trousers or jeans and a sturdy pair of boots finishes off the look perfectly. However, most coats will look good with nearly all outdoor outfits.

The Walker is Hidepark’s most popular leather coat, and it’s easy to see why. The Nubuck leather looks stylish and natural, while an array of pockets provide the functionality you need for a trip to town or a long walk in the countryside. Drawstrings around the collar and waist (internal) allow you to adjust the coat to make it a close, comfortable fit. And what you can’t see so well from the image is the soft, warm interior lining. This coat will keep out the winter chills as well as anything else you might find.
