Whether you’ve just bought a new leather jacket or you’re trying to bring your old neglected one back to life, discover the do’s and don’ts of caring for your leather

How to Clean Leather Properly

The best way to ensure you get longevity out of your leather is by taking action as soon as you get it. By taking it out of storage and immediately cleaning and conditioning it, you give it the best chance of lasting several years. Using a good quality leather conditioner and applying it with a soft cloth, you will be able to massage away any unwanted dust or dirt. Refrain from using any form of bristle as this could risk scratching it.

Avoid Using an Iron on Your Leather Jacket

It is natural for your jacket to end up with some wrinkles in the leather as you use it more and more, but that will leave you wondering how to get rid of them. You’ll be drawn to the idea of ironing before researching whether you can iron a leather jacket. While we would generally advise against this, there is a way to iron it safely. Place a cloth between your leather jacket and your iron and gently apply heat. Depending on the finish of your jacket will decide how much heat you can apply. Don’t Try and Repair Your Leather Jacket Yourself

Accidents happen which is why you should never get overly upset about damaging your leather jacket. If you spot any signs of stretching or your stitching coming undone don’t try and repair it yourself as this will result in a poor finish as well as reduce the longevity of your jacket’s life. Instead, take it to a professional who will know what to do depending on the scenario you present to them. Here at Hidepark, we offer
